Compare Cloud SQL high availability cost

Model Cloud SQL HA with the needed compute, storage, replica, backup, and recovery assumptions instead of a flat multiplier.

Price availability as a configuration

Cloud SQL high availability is not a percentage to subtract or add without checking the edition and region. Google publishes HA vCPU and memory rates, plus separate storage, backups, networking, and possible licenses. Compare it to the recovery objective it supports.

For an illustrative model, price a 2-vCPU, 8-GiB configuration for 730 hours at the HA rates, then add 500 GiB storage and 200 GiB backup quantities. Compare the result with a non-HA configuration only after confirming what changes in durability and failover behavior.

The Cloud SQL Cost Calculator cannot price HA: it models Iowa Enterprise vCPU and memory only. Use it for a non-HA compute baseline and Google’s HA table for the comparison.

FAQ

Does a read replica replace HA?

They are different designs and billing components; assess operational and recovery requirements first.
