RDS vs Cloud SQL: build a comparable database estimate

Compare RDS and Cloud SQL estimates by matching database capacity, runtime, storage, backups, and region.

Updated · Sources checked

Compare like-for-like capacity

Choose a comparable engine, vCPU, memory, region, and 730-hour runtime. A hypothetical 500 GB database should use the same storage and backup assumptions on both sides. Add replicas and I/O only when the design requires them.

Prices do not prove equal performance or operational fit. Version support, maintenance, replication, backups, network paths, and licensing can change the architecture. The comparison calculator exposes its modeled subtotal and leaves those decisions visible.

What is commonly omitted?

Backups, transfer, monitoring, support, taxes, and commitments may be outside a compute-only scenario. Check both official rate cards and retain the date, region, engine, and exclusions.

Use the RDS vs Cloud SQL calculator.
